Ballantyne Neighbors Helping Families in Need
Our Community Needs Your Help!
We continue to have many Ballantyne families who are struggling and need food assistance – including CMS staff members who work in our Ballantyne-area schools. The families in need are identified by the school counselors in the 9 CMS schools that are a part of the Ardrey Kell feeder pattern (Ardrey Kell High School, Rea Farms K-8 Steam Academy, Community House and JM Robinson Middle Schools, Ballantyne, Elon Park, Endhaven, Hawk Ridge, and Polo Ridge Elementary Schools).
Over the summer, Ballantyne Families Helping Neighbors In Need was able to help several families with food from the pantry. We also had a unique opportunity in our partnership with Crisis Assistance Ministry to give some of our families free window air conditioner units.
We have also been working hard to get ready for this school year so that we can be as impactful as possible. However, YOU are the essential piece to making everything happen! We are excited to partner with you this year to help our families in need!
This year, our amazing school counselors/social worker will continue working within their school communities to identify families who need food support. Then, Ballantyne Families supports these families through:
Current Needs:
In the summer of 2020, we set our vision is to bring together our community to care for our neighbors in their time of need. Our mission is to inspire, engage, organize and empower the community to identify and meet the needs of our neighbors. YOU are making it happen!
So far, we have given over $220,000 in grocery gift cards and over 1,900 bags of food!! You have helped hundreds of families make sure that they can feed their families during their time of need. Everyone’s efforts, small and big, make a difference in your community. You have made and continue to make a difference!!
Best wishes to you and your family for a great fall and start of the school year!
Thank you for you continued support!

This year, our amazing school counselors/social worker will continue working within their school communities to identify families who need food support. Then, Ballantyne Families supports these families through:
- Our food pantry at Community House Middle School
- If a family needs support, they should contact their school counselor/social worker. The counselor will fill out a Google form with the family to select food items. Each week, volunteers go to the pantry to select the food items and then deliver the food to the school that made the request.
- We are grateful to this year’s pantry managers, Audi Naftzger and Erin Furey, who run the pantry and guide a team of great volunteers!
- Four rounds of giving throughout the year:
- Thanksgiving and December holidays (2 givings)
- Elementary and Middle School families will receive food to make a holiday meal, a $50 grocery gift card, holiday napkins, and an encouraging note from the community.
- High school families will receive a $150 grocery gift card and an encouraging note from the community
- Spring break
- All families will receive grocery gift cards based on their family size and an encouraging note from the community
- Families will also be given the option to receive food from the pantry along with their gift card
- Summer
- All families will receive grocery gift cards based on their family size and an encouraging note from the community
- Thanksgiving and December holidays (2 givings)
Current Needs:
- Help us get the word out about the pantry. We can’t help people if they don’t know that the pantry exists. The pantry is for all families who work in or attend one of the 9 schools in the Ardrey Kell feeder pattern. Feel free to place on social media, at your school, clubhouse, etc.. See attached flyer here.
- Help provide a meal for a family in need. We are collecting grocery gift cards (Walmart or Harris Teeter) through November 4th to help provide Thankgsiving & Holiday meals. You can bring a gift card into the front office during this time for donation.
- Corporate donors and grant help
- With the current economy, we believe that we will need help from corporate donors and grants to support our families in need. Currently only 5-10% of our givings comes from corporate support. Does your company support local non-profits who focus on food and education? Do you know of grants that can help us?
- If you answered yes to either of these questions and/or want to get involved, please contact Lauren Rosenbaum ([email protected]).
- Thankful for this great group of people who have already said they will help: Susan Medina, Kyle Smith, Ashley Parish and Lauren Rosenbaum.
